50歳でガンで死んだバーバラ・マイヤホフは、亡くなる1年前に出版された論文「ちょうどいい時に死ぬ」の中で、誕生日パーティの最中に(半ばみんなが予期していたように)亡くなったユダヤ人・ヤコブ・コーヴィッツの最期の時と周囲の人たちが織りなした儀礼的パフォーマンスについて考察している。マイヤホフは、ヤコブの死を客観的に第三者的に描写するだけではなく、実際のヤコブの誕生パーティの企画にも関与しており、自らのユダヤ人出自との関連の中で考察を加えている。
